Special Education Teacher (Self-Contained Setting)

Our organization is recruiting a compassionate and resourceful Special Education Teacher for an Illinois school district.

This position centers on supporting a small classroom of approximately 10 students, primarily diagnosed with autism, whose academic, developmental, and daily living needs may vary significantly. Your Role in the Classroom: Participating in IEP meetings and contributing to student-centered educational planning. Promoting student engagement, self-confidence, and independence through purposeful learning activities.

Implementing positive behavior strategies and maintaining a structured, supportive classroom environment. Tracking student performance, evaluating progress toward IEP goals, and completing required documentation. Delivering individualized instruction to address academic, communication, behavioral, and functional life skills.

Developing and adapting lesson materials, classroom activities, and routines to support varying learning abilities. Working closely with paraprofessionals, families, and related-service providers to maintain consistent support throughout the school day.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related field, along with an active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with the appropriate Special Education endorsement. Candidates should be skilled in developing individualized instructional strategies and maintaining a structured, positive classroom environment. Experience working with students with autism, significant support needs, or in a self-contained classroom is preferred.
